A place of it's place

In the spirit of its neighbourhood, Liverpool St is profoundly serious at its core with an abiding playfulness revealed through innovative interactions between inside and out; between sanctuary and society. Judicious pops of colour, unexpected exposures of depth and shadow and variations of scale enliven the everyday. The courtyard’s ever-changing garden is eminently enticing, while the rooftop’s sweeping city views inspire both quiet contemplation and spontaneous revelry.

Railway Hotel

800 Nicholson Street, Carlton North

The Railway claims to be, “Everything your favourite local should be” and it’s hard to argue. A fresh refurbishment has retained that authentic 1970s nostalgia while propelling it into the present. Happy hours, live music, a pool comp, trivia and Sunday sessions mean it’s a real locals pub, with the bonus of seriously good food and an excellent drinks list.

Nicholson St.

There’s so much to be said about being part of a thriving local high street community, and Nicholson Street is one of Melbourne’s most tightly knit. A collection of independent and family-run businesses line the street, offering a range of products to ensure you can always find what you’re looking for while greeting old and new faces. The 96 tram travels through the strip and into the city for the ultimate convenience.

Piedimonte's

37/49A Reid Street, Fitzroy North

Being a Fitzroy North local means being a Piedimonte’s regular – and that’s something to cherish. Known far beyond the postcode for its authentic Italian delicacies, its seemingly endless capacity, its no-frills setting and no-nonsense service, the one-stop shop has formed the heart of Fitzroy North Village for generations. Pop in for the basics, grab a coffee and a cannoli and be forever smitten.

Project Team

Kennedy Nolan

Architect

Kennedy Nolan knows how Melburnians like to live. In fact, the team led by Patrick Kennedy and Rachel Nolan has been setting the tone for the way Melburnians live for 25 years, whether in standalone residences or high-end multi-residential homes. The practice draws on the evocative power of form, colour, texture and light, as well as the resonance of shared memories, histories and landscapes. Its approach to design draws on the handcrafted sculptural form of modernism, as evident in its projects’ highly individual nature, which transforms relationships between interior and exterior.
